Fire & Foot Pursuit Keep MPSD Busy Sunday Night & Monday Morning

Mexico Public Safety is releasing details on two house fires late last night (Sunday) and early this morning (Monday) along with a foot pursuit.

The first fire was just before 8:00 last night (Sunday) in the 900 block of East Jackson and was started by a child playing with fire and being unable to put it out.

Significant fire damage was contained to the upper story of the house with the main level sustaining water damage.

The second fire came in just before 1:00 this morning (Monday) in the 900 block of North Kentucky.

When crews arrived, fire was coming from the attached garage of the home and had spread to a pickup, travel trailer, and a privacy fence.

The garage and items in the yard sustained significant fire damage as did the kitchen, the rest of the house had smoke and heat damage.

The fire was apparently caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

Just after 11:30 last night (Sunday), officers responded to a report of reckless driving on North Clark where the vehicle was possibly chasing a juvenile.

Officers located the vehicle and all four juveniles in it fled on foot during a traffic stop.

All four were located with the help of an Audrain County deputy and taken to Mexico Public Safety.

Parents of all four juveniles, aged 13 to 15, came from Callaway County to pick up their respective children.

A case will be forwarded to the Audrain County Juvenile office for review.
