KWWR Sports Report 5/23/22
The St. Louis Cardinals completed a series sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday (Sunday) on the road with an 18-4 victory.
The Redbirds pounced on the Pirates with a 20-hit attack that included two home runs from Albert Pujols.
After Albert Pujols pitched for the first time in his career for the St. Louis Cardinals one week ago, catcher Yadier Molina followed in Pujols footsteps and took the mound yesterday (Sunday) in Pittsburgh.
The Cardinals had an 18-0 lead over the Pirates paving the way for Molina to take the hill for the first time in his 19-year career.
Molina gave up four runs on four hits including two home runs, however did record three outs to get out of the inning.
The Missouri Tigers softball season is over after a 1-0 loss to Arizona in the Columbia Regional Championship yesterday (Sunday).
The Tigers finish the year with a 38-22 record.
Mizzou has added another commitment for the 2022 season.
Junior college cornerback L.J. Hewitt made the announcement on social media yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
He played nine games for Holmes Community College in Mississippi before transferring to Mississippi Gulf College.
He is a 6’3 175 pound Samford, Florida native and chose Mizzou over offers from Iowa State and Mississippi State.
The Kansas City Royals lost 7-6 to the Minnesota Twins at the K.
The positive of the game for Kansas City came from starting pitcher Brady Singer who threw 95 pitches and allowed just four hits while striking out three.
The St. Louis Blues try to pull even in their Round 2 playoff series with the Colorado Avalanche in St. Louis tonight (Monday).
The Blues trail the best-of-seven series two games to one.
