Columbia Police Officer Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter
A Columbia police officer who hit a four year old girl while driving a police SUV in the parking lot of the Battle High School in January is now formally charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Charges were filed yesterday (Monday) by a prosecuting attorney.
Andria Heese was trying to get onto the sidewalk at the school to monitor students getting onto buses after school on January 4th, the child Gabriella Curry, was walking on the sidewalk at the time and was hit.
In May, the City of Columbia paid 3.4 million dollars to the girl’s family in a settlement.
Heese was initially put on administrative leave after the incident.
