Abortion Rights Advocates Can Begin Collecting Signatures
Abortion rights advocates can now start collecting signatures to get a public vote on a new law restricting abortions in Missouri.
The states top election official Republican Jay Ashcroft made the decision yesterday (Wednesday).
It leaves two weeks to collect about one hundred thousand signatures.
The law would ban abortions after eight weeks of pregnancy.
It includes an exception for medical emergencies but not rape or incest.
Most of the new law takes effect on August 28th.
