Boone County Commissioner Suggests Merger Between Sheriff’s Office and County Police Departments
A possible merger of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department with police departments in the county, including the city of Columbia is being suggested.
Boone County’s presiding commissioner Dan Atwill suggested the merger yesterday (Wednesday) at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast event that focused on local government issues.
Atwill said he wants a discussion to start with a joint committee that can examine the pros and cons of a merger.
Columbia Mayor Brian Treece is seemingly supporting the proposal saying Atwill had a great idea of how we can coordinate with the county sheriff’s office to make sure we are being as responsive as possible with limited resources available.
