Rocking for Cancer Raises Big Dollars
Most of us know the song, Rockin around the clock…
For one MU Senior, he took the song to new lengths this weekend. Adam Kaiser, a member of Mizzou’s Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, rocked in a rocking chair for 63 hours straight to raise money for the American Cancer Society… and it paid off in a big way. The AEP fraternity were able to raise $207,651.
The “Rock-A-Thon” is a tradition for the fraternity that started back in 1969. The 56-year project has now raised over a million dollars for cancer research.
According to KOMU news, Gordon Brode, one of the three co-chairmen of the even, the Rock_A-Thon at Mizzou is the biggest single chapter Greek philanthropy in the world and that around 100 people were involved locally in the event.
Kaiser, was elected to be the ‘rocker’ because his family was affected by cancer firsthand. His dad has beaten colon cancer in the past few years. He was surrounded by a large group during his rocking, including fellow fraternity members, friends, and his parents. It was something he described as “not easy.”
