MHS Speech & Debate Team Members Advance To State

Mexico Speech & Debate is adding some new hardware to their trophy case after Friday & Saturday’s Northeast District Speech & Debate Tournament.

Student competitors from 17 schools were all vying for a spot to represent the district at the State Championships in Springfield April 20-22.

For the 29th year in a row, Mexico is sending competitors to state and also won the 2nd place team sweepstakes for the first time in school history.

Mia Moeller is the District Champion & State Qualifier in Dramatic Interpretation, William Sause is the District Champion & State Qualifier in Storytelling, and the team of Logan Wilson & Ethan Wiley are District Champion and State Qualifier for Dramatic Interpretation.

Lucy Gleeson & Jyllian Whitworth took 3rd place in Duet Acting, Thomas Peuster placed 6th in US Extemporaneous Speaking and Andrew Peuster took 5th in International Extemporaneous Public Speaking.

Lucy Gleeson placed 5th in Humorous Interpretation, Kaitlin Rose took 6th in Radio Speaking, Karisa Hayden took 5th in Pose and 6th in Poetry, and Mia Moeller took 4th in Oratory.

Mexico’s Readers Theatre and One Act Play each took 2nd place in their respective categories.
