Callaway County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Auxvasse Man for Allegedly Shooting and Killing a Neighbors Cat

The following is a press release from the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 24, 2025 at approximately 8pm Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a report of a cat that had been shot and killed in the 200 block of North Mary in Auxvasse.

During the investigation, the owner reported the cat, which is normally an indoor cat, had gotten outside and was shot by a neighbor.

During the investigation probable cause was established to arrest Tristen Poirier, 39, of Auxvasse for discharging a rifle and ultimately killing the cat inside the city limits of Auxvasse.

Deputies attempted to locate Poirier that evening but were unsuccessful.

On the morning of April 25, deputies located and arrested Poirier in Fulton.

Later that day, the Callaway County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges for Animal Abuse and Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Subsection 7).

A Judge set Poirier’s bond at $2,500 surety.
