The St. Louis Cardinals lost 5-4 to the Chicago Cubs in their series opener at Wrigley Field last (Thursday) night.

Cardinals reliever Ryan Helsley had a rare blown save. He is now 33 for 36 in save opportunities on the season.

Rookie shortstop Masyn Winn hit a two-run home run. And Paul Goldschmidt, had three hits including a home run.

The Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 7-1.

Royals slugger Bobby Witt Jr. added another line to his resume with his 20th home run, which made him the first player in American League/National League history to collect 20 homers and 20 steals in each of his first three seasons.

During last night’s game (Thursday) Witt also extended his hit streak to a team-best 14 games.

Kansas City is now 12 games above .500, have won four in a row and have moved into second place in the American League Central, six games behind the Cleveland Guardians.

Five-star quarterback, and Mizzou commit, Matt Zollers committed yesterday (Thursday) to play in the All American Bowl on NBC on January 11th.

The annual showcase is for high school recruits who will soon be joining the college ranks during the upcoming year.

The 2024-All-American Bowl will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
