Moberly Doctor Pleads Guilty To Defrauding Medicare & Medicaid
A Moberly internist is pleading guilty to defrauding Medicare and Medicaid.
Dr. Justin G. LaMonda pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to two counts of making false statements related to healthcare matters.
LaMonda admitted during his plea that he and his father, also a doctor, agreed to bill Medicare and Missouri Medicaid for services performed by Justin LaMonda as if they had been performed by his father and when payments were received, the elder LaMonda would transfer the funds to his son.
Justin LaMonda’s Medicare and Medicaid billing privileges were revoked after the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts suspended his medical license in 2017 for engaging in sexual activity with his office manager and prescribing her controlled substances without sufficient examination.
The scheme defrauded the agencies of $537,322 and upon sentencing, LaMonda faces a fine of $250,000, up to 5 years in prison, or both.
