The Cards – Reds game was a washout yesterday afternoon in St. Louis, called at 12:31 on account of rain.

It will be made up as part of a September 17th day-night doubleheader.

The two teams will meet up again on Friday following the All Star break in Cincinnati as the Cards kick off a 10-day, 8-game road trip that also includes stops in Washington and Toronto.

In other Cardinals related news, the son of former Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, Jackson Holliday, was the #1 overall draft pick. Holliday, a Stillwater, Oklahoma high school shortstop, went to the Baltimore Orioles.

The last place in the AL Central Royals didn’t improve on that stat yesterday, dropping another game to the Blue Jays 4-2.

They host Tampa Bay for 3 starting Friday night.

In the MLB Draft, the Royals used their number 9 pick to select Virginia Tech outfielder Gavin Cross.

The Blues re-signed one of the final pieces of last year’s team as they inked 26-year-old defenseman Niko Mikkola to a 1-year, $1.9 million contract yesterday.
