Jefferson City Police are on the lookout for a suspect after they report several shots were fired early yesterday. Officers were called to the 1400 block of Elizabeth Street after 10am after receiving multiple calls of shots fired. Arriving officers located several shell casings on the scene and discovered that one building had been struck by bullets. No injuries were reported and anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Jefferson City Police Department or Crime-stoppers.
A New Franklin woman suffered serious injuries on Wednesday. According to the Highway Patrol, a vehicle being driven by 23 year old Jody L Sampo of New Franklin was driving southbound on Missouri Route 5 when her vehicle went off the side of the roadway, struck and embankment and overturned. Sampo was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Columbia Fire Department was called to a fire yesterday afternoon in the 1700 block of Blue Ridge Drive. Arriving personnel discovered that the fire began after smoking materials were thrown away. Firefighters found flames and smoke coming from an upstairs window when they arrived on the scene. The fire was contained to an upstairs bedroom but the home suffered major smoke damage. No injuries were reported with the estimated damages at around $50,000.
One man is dead after an incident with police Wednesday in Morgan County. According to reports, police were called to a 2nd street house in Versailles at around 10 o'clock Wednesday night. Officials with the highway patrol say they were called in regards to an assault that was in progress. When they arrived they learned that 41 year old Randall Roden had already assaulted someone. Officers made an attempt to restrain Roden using a taser but he was able to grab his gun and began firing. After multiple shots rang out, one ricocheted and struck a deputy and caused minor injuries. The officer then returned fire, killing Roden. The incident is still under investigation.
